Weight Loss and You

It’s not always immediately obvious how to succeed in any weight loss program. We all know that diet and exercise are the way to go. That is more or less true, but it is often more complicated than that. Depending on who you are, all the dieting and exercise in the world may not have very good results for you if you aren’t listening to your body. Some people can maintain a slim weight with just a little dieting and exercise (don’t you just hate these people??). Others can work at it for months with little progress. Some, like me, can work at it just as hard and actually gain weight!

The trick in weight loss is pretty much learning about yourself. Your body is unique and will react to different strategies in a unique way; hence the wide variety of results in weight loss regimens from person to person.

One thing I’ve learned in my weight loss research is that it’s all about metabolism. Virtually every technique that will have favorable results for you, is something that will boost your metabolism. Cutting out calories may help you with your weight loss in the short term, but this strategy won’t help you keep it off in the long run. Starvation diets are therefore generally not recommended unless you are looking for only a temporary weight loss.

If you are trying to figure out how to lose weight once and for all, stick to things that sound like they are going to boost your metabolism rather than starve yourself. It’s not about low calorie foods and lack of eating, its about eating the right foods and balancing it with a more active lifestyle.

The desire to lose weight is a pretty common one today, and has created a large market for less than effective products, shams, and scams. Always be a little wary when looking for new weight loss products, and be very wary of people who claim to be able to teach you how to lose weight quickly. Stick to reputable sources, and do some research before you buy or sign up for anything. Check out the science behind the weight loss claims.

With our ever-increasing understanding of science and the human body, the weight loss quest in is likely to continue yielding a lot of breakthroughs and new ideas in the future. After all is said and done, however, the best person to help you figure out your most effective weight loss program is yourself. Doctors and nutritionists may be useful guides, but only you can understand your own body better than anyone else.

Everyday Tips To Lose Weight 3

Welcome to another in my continuing series entitled Everyday Tips To Lose Weight. Here are today’s tips and tricks:

1. Set scheduled times to have meals and stick to it. You can stretch these times by half an hour, but anything more than that is going to affect your eating pattern. The result will either be a loss of appetite or that famished feeling which will make you stuff yourself the next time you eat. This of course will defeat your efforts to lose weight.

2. Eat only when you are hungry. Don’t use food as an excuse to fill time or to comfort yourself. Some of us have the tendency to eat whenever we see food. We use parties as an excuse to stuff ourselves. Understand that the effect of a whole week of dieting can be wasted by just one day’s party food. Whenever you are offered something to eat do not decline it completely, but just take off a nibble so that you appear to be polite and at the same time can watch your diet.

3. Stop snacking between meals! This is especially true if you have to travel a lot. When traveling, you may feel that the only time you can get a bite to eat is snacks and junk food. The main problem with most snacks and junk food is that they are usually less filling and contain a lot of fat and calories. Just think about French fries - tempting but terribly fattening. Remember your goal: lose weight!

4. If you must snack, snack on vegetables. You might get hunger pangs in between meals, but it is something that you can control. Even better, try munching on carrots. They are an excellent way to satisfy those hunger pangs and are good for your eyes and teeth.

5. Go easy on tea and coffee. Tea and coffee are harmless by themselves. It’s when you add the cream and sugar that they become fattening. Did you know that having a cup of tea or coffee that has cream and at least two cubes of sugar is as bad as having a big piece of rich chocolate cake?

6. Try to stick to black tea or coffee. Black tea or coffee can actually be good for you. Personally, I recommend tea rather than coffee. The caffeine in the coffee is not really good for you because it is an alkaloid and can affect other functions of your body like you metabolism.

I hope you are finding these tips useful for your efforts to lose weight. Stay tuned for more in future articles.

More Everyday Tips to Lose Weight

Welcome once again to my series of articles presenting tips to lose weight. Here are some more tips to help you with your program:

1. Include foods in your diet that contain more water, such as tomatoes and watermelons. These foods contain 90 to 95 % water, so that there is nothing that you have to lose by feasting on them. They fill you up without adding to the calorie count. Cut the calories and you lose weight!

2. Stay away from sweetened bottle drinks, especially sodas. All those colas and fizzy drinks are sweetened with sugar, and sugar means calories. The more you can cut out on these sweetened bottle drinks, the better for you. So if you must drink sodas, then stick to diet sodas. Even better: just drink more water!

3. Eat fresh fruit instead of drinking fruit juice. Juice is often sweetened with sugar, but fresh fruits have natural sugars. When you eat fruit, you are taking in a lot of fiber, which is needed by your body, and fruits of course are an excellent source of vitamins.

4. If you do have a craving for fruit juice then go for fresh fruit juice instead of those that contain artificial flavors and colors. Or even better, try making your own fruit juice. Take care not to sweeten it with too much sugar! Instead of artificial sweeteners, try Stevia.

5. Choose fresh fruit rather than processed fruits. Processed and canned fruits do not have as much fiber as fresh fruit and processed and canned fruits are nearly always sweetened.

6. Increase your fiber intake. Your body needs a lot of fiber. Try to include in your diet as many fruits and vegetables as you can.

7. Go crazy on vegetables. Vegetables are your best bet when it comes to losing pounds. Nature has a terrific spread when it comes to choosing vegetables. And the leafy green vegetables are your best bet. Try to include at least one salad in your diet daily.

8. Eat intelligently. The difference between man and beast is that we are driven by intelligence while beasts are driven by instinct. don’t just eat something because you feel like eating it. Ask yourself whether your body really needs it.

9. Watch what you eat. Keep a watchful eye on everything that goes in. Sometimes the garnishes and accompaniments can be richer than the food itself. Remember that it is the easiest thing in the world to eat something without realizing that it was something that you should not have eaten! Discipline yourself and you will lose weight.

10. Control that sweet tooth. Remember that sweet things generally mean more calories. It is natural that we have cravings for sweet things, especially chocolates and other confectionary. Go easy on these things and each time you consume something sweet understand that it is going to slow down your weight loss plan.

Stay tuned for more everyday tips to help you in your quest to lose weight.

Everyday Tips to Lose Weight: The Importance of Water

Welcome to the second article in my series entitled Everyday Tips to Lose Weight. Each article will explore various strategies you can apply to help you lose weight.

Today we will look at the importance of water to your plan to lose weight.

We all need to drink plenty of water. Most people don’t get enough water. Our bodies need a lot of water, so drink it! Water is not just a way to flush out toxins. If you have more water in your body, you will generally feel healthier and fitter. This itself will discourage any tendency to overeat. The best thing about water is that it has no calories at all.

First, start your day with a glass of cool water. Its a wonderful way to start your day, and you will only need a smaller quantity of your breakfast drink after that. A glass of water lets out all your digestive juices and lubricates the insides of your body. You may have your morning cup of tea or coffee but have it after a glass of water. It is good for you.

Drink a glass of water before you start any meal. Water naturally needs some space so that you will feel fuller without actually having to stuff yourself. One of the goals of losing weight is to eat less. You will eat less if you feel full even before starting the meal. Drink that water!

Also, be sure to have another glass of water while you are having any meal. This is another way of making yourself full so that you can actually rise from the table eating less. Instead of drinking it one gulp, take sips after each mouthful. This will help the food to settle faster so that you get that feeling that you are full.

And finally, have a glass of water after the meal. This again will contribute to feelings of fullness.

Water is such a remarkable thing, but seldom do we give it the credit that it deserves. Did you know that over 66% of your body weight is nothing but water? It’s amazing! Water also plays a vital role in weight control.

Stay tuned for more articles about strategies to lose weight.

Teen Tips: Ways to Lose Weight

Are you the parent of a teenager looking to help him or her to lose weight? Here are some tips that may help..

These days, teenagers face more than just hormonal changes.

For a teenager, losing weight is a perpetual issue. During their times of raging hormones and attempting to adapt to their changing bodies and social roles, you’ll find teens complaining about their looks, especially their weight.

The first think you need to do is to consult a doctor or dietitian to determine if your teenager is indeed overweight or if he/she needs to lose weight fast. If a teen is really overweight, then moral and emotional support is one of the most basic things needed to overcome their weight problems.

Weight loss and weight management is a long-term process and involves not just the person who is trying to lose weight. It also involves the people who prepare his or her food, as well as many other factors. Teenagers that have the support of their families show much better results in weight loss programs that those teens that try to lose weight on their own.

When trying to lose weight, be sure that you approach the process in the safest way possible. Recent medical studies recommend losing not more than about two pounds per week. Losing weight can be accomplished through a combination of programs, including exercise and decreased calorie intake. Make sure to get into a program that helps you lose weight the right way.

The medical community warns that it is unsafe to lose more than 2% of your body weight in a period of 24-48 hours. The results would be a decrease in aerobic performance and endurance. Meanwhile, losing more than 5% of your body weight in three to four days will have detrimental effects on your power, muscle endurance and strength, aerobic performances and even mental concentration. With such extreme programs to lose weight, the body also loses the ability to cool itself, which can cause a host of other problems.

Aside from the right exercise, you need to compliment this increased activity with the right diet. Avoid drinks that are high in calories like sodas, high-sugar juices, and other drinks. Stay away from low calorie drinks that are sweetened with sugar substitutes such as aspartame. These products have been proven to have serious detrimental effects over the long term. Make sure that you drink lots of water and fruit juices that do not have added sugar. This will help you stay away from those sodas.

It is best to take your program to lose weight one step at time. More often than not, we all tend to go back to our normal ways quickly if changes are introduced drastically. That’s why it is better to move forward gradually rather than leaping two to three steps forward and finding yourself five steps back after a few weeks.

One great tip to reduce your food intake is to stop eating when you’re already full. Avoid eating when you’re emotionally unstable. This happens a lot, especially in teens with constant body changes.

When people eat because they are bored, lonely, or stressed, they tend to continue eating despite the fact that they are already full. Eat slowly since it will take about 20 minutes before your brain recognizes the amount of food in your stomach. A good strategy here is to put down your fork or spoon after each mouthful. Eat slowly, and take the time to really enjoy what you eat.

Be sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Try to replace most of your junk food intake with fruits or vegetables. Not only will you lose weight, but it will keep your heart and body healthy. Don’t replace food groups or avoid eating them in your attempt at weight loss.

As a teenager, you should avoid such forms of diets since your body still needs the nutrients for growth and development. Diet pills are also a no-no. These pills can be very dangerous to your health even if taken with a doctor’s prescription. It is better to go about losing weight the more natural way. It will create discipline and is more sustainable in the long run.

Helping Teens to Lose Weight
- by Bill Brine-Lead Generation Master

Teenagers can be plagued by many health problems triggered by many factors. One of the most basic issues during this stage of life is the peer pressure to maintain a normal weight. Teens sometimes will take extreme weight loss measures to get to that “ideal” weight, even to the point of becoming anorexic.

Losing weight for teens requires discipline, perhaps more discipline than for adults. This has to be more than just skipping meals - all that will do is make you feel tired and haggard as you struggle with your weight loss program.

Want your teens to lose weight? Start at home. If the environment has erratic schedules, chances are the lifestyle is chaotic too, and this will affect your meal plans. Your teens can end up eating at fast food chains or they will keep busy in front of the TV nibbling junk food. Take the time to plan and serve healthy meals on a regular schedule. After all, the long-term health of you and your family is certainly worth more than any form of recreation.

Get a book which lists the calorie counts of various foods, and keep it handy. Encourage your teens to keep track of calories consumed. Get them off sodas and diet drinks.

Ice cream is a big culprit in adding extra calories. One serving of ice cream can be more than 450 calories, which is almost a third of an average person’s complete meal. Hardly conducive to losing weight!

Fruits and vegetables are an important part of any diet. Teens must not forget to take these food groups in larger quantities to help them with an efficient diet. Cakes and fancy pastries are rich and tasty, but they can’t fully satisfy your hunger. A good serving of natural cereals for breakfast is a good start for the day.

If you want your teens to lose weight, encourage them to focus on getting trim. Don’t fall for all those fad diets or diet pills you see advertised everywhere. At this young age, diet and exercise should be sufficient, and you will be ingraining lifelong healthy habits.

Diet pills and tablets may sound encouraging, because of the promise of instant and seemingly spectacular results.. But they can have serious side effects, particularly at so young an age. Don’t fall for the hype.

The only key to permanent weight loss is still limiting the amount of food taken, knowing the calories consumed, and exercise.

This is the healthy and natural way for teens to lose weight.

A little Help with that Belly - Camouflage that Big Belly

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Consider how often you’ve been told that to reduce that spare tyre you must be determined. Or re-worded in a more exact way, in order to effectively lose weight you should be willing and able to severely reduce naughty extras (like cakes) and eating at expensive bars, (yes, those fast foods are a no-no). If this silly advice was actually likely to work in real-life, the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics would no longer define over-eating as one of their leading health problems!!

The reason very many commercial diets eventually don’t work is because they fall foul of this simple principle. They are designed for the results today weight loss, not for normal everyday eating that change our whole way of life. Most commercial diets require more resolve to start and follow, and worse, try to stop us eating our favorite foods and stop us from eating at our favorite dining areas.

It is exciting, the thought of trying something different, and commencing the next new “fashionable” diet plan, fits the same mould. But unhappily, the end result for most of these ideas is unsatisfactory. Once the novelty and excitement peter out, we’re going to be back to square one.

Attempts to forcibly change our diet generally follow this sort of behaviour…

We begin the chosen diet program. It is an exciting prospect, that of losing weight, we are highly motivated, the weight is beginning to fall off, and the idea of a diet doesn’t seem so frightening now.

    • Pressures of life are forever escalating. There are demanding kids, bosses demanding yet more work, and don’t forget there are the inevitable requirements that you’ve got to read up about on this new diet.
      • Inevitably we end up smack-dab in the middle of a time management crisis, and looking for ways to save time. We vote in our mind to skip a few of the time consuming “special” meals defined as good for our health - “as this is a special occasion.”
      • Our “resources” of low calorie foods begins to dwindle, a full shop at the supermarket is out of the question, and so you decide to just nip down to the local convenience store… (oops…… how did those snacks get into the grocery cart anyhow?). … a familiar story I’m sure.

Maybe you should reconsider the use of a diet and you should try and find an alternative:

Now here’s a belly reduction tip I really like:

When females gain some weight, they often store excess water around their abdomens. If this is the case, it is useful advice to avoid tight fitting clothes. Wear a reasonably low-cut top to move somebody’s gaze away from that belly. Choose dark colours for your clothes because they give the illusion of a more slender image, so try to mainly wear: black on its own (very effective) or deep blue or red.

Reduce the size of your belly using this little tip:

      Fat Backside and Thighs?

Are you struggling to do your jeans up? It’s not really that you suddenly got bigger, it’s the clothes designer’s fault for making high pants. Consider wearing lower pants and also a sweater with medium length that will go down as far as your knees.
