Weight Loss Through Exercise

There are so many people who are overweight these days. If you are one of these and are looking for a quick fix, you will need to reconsider your weight loss plans. It took many years to gain this weight; it will take a long time and some effort to get rid of it.

There are many ways that you can use to get rid of those excess pounds. There are many different kinds of diet pills and diet programs available, but the best way to lose weight is still through exercise.

Exercise is the best weight loss method because it builds your endurance. As this develops, it also increases your metabolism, prompting you to burn more calories than before, thus causing your weight loss to accelerate over time.

Studies show that there are no known side effects when you decide to exercise. The worst that can happen is straining a muscle for failing to stretch, or by not giving the body enough time to recuperate before engaging in another session.

You don’t have to spend money much in order to lose weight. There are many exercises that can be done at home. For example, after stretching, you can go walking or jogging early in the morning, thus burning a few calories. Afterwards, you can do some push ups and sit ups to work on the upper body and the abs.

The other way that will cost a little is by enrolling in a gym. Here, a fitness trainer can help you lose weight by helping you design a personalized program that involves cardio-vascular and aerobic activity.

Warm up will be running for a few miles on the treadmill followed by some weight training using the various machines.

Those who find it difficult to hire a trainer can work out after being taught how to use the equipment. If you enjoy exercising in groups, there will usually be many types of group classes offered, such as aerobics classes, tae bo, Pilates and yoga.

If you are uncomfortable about exercising with other people but would still like to participate in a class, you can get the DVD version instead. There are a lot of these being sold in video stores or online now. These are the next best thing to being there.

One of the most important things to remember while exercising is to drink lots of water. People who fail to do this may suffer from heatstroke or dehydration which is also not good for someone who wants to lose weight.

Before engaging in any exercise, it is advisable to see a doctor. The mind may feel like it can do anything, but the body may say differently. Do things gradually at first and then pick up the pace with other exercises as time progresses.

Engaging in a sport is another form of exercise. Running down the court in a game of basketball or football may not seem like much but it still increases your heart rate and burns those calories.

These examples just show that there are many ways to lose weight. Motivate yourself and get started. Your body will thank you.

Weight Loss Success - Uncovering Food Allergies

Weight Loss Success - Uncovering Food Allergies

Having trouble with your weight loss plan? Perhaps you may be allergic to certain foods and not even know it.

In fact, hidden food allergies can be a major reason why you are not as successful as you wish to be with your weight loss program

Was there an instance when you ate something like an ice cream, cake, cheese, or a piece of fruit - and you felt even hungrier? Have you experienced any food urges that you can’t satisfy, no matter how much of that food you consume?

If your answer to the questions above is ‘yes’, then you have food allergies and you’re probably having a hard time with weight loss. Food allergies can make you fat, and that is already a proven fact.

People crave for foods to which they’re allergic. When they are not able to eat these foods, they experience withdrawal symptoms, much like drug addicts. Not to the same level, of course, but there is discomfort that can only be alleviated by eating large quantities of the offending foods.

Many people can attest to the irresistible power of their food allergy. Compulsive eaters are craving and continuously eating foods that they’re addicted to every day. They have no idea that their eating habits and food cravings have something to do with a physiological need.

Specialized doctors who diagnose and treat allergies are now accepting the simultaneous phenomenon of addiction and allergy to both chemicals and food. These doctors are called clinical ecologists, and they believe that almost all persistent health problems like depression, migraine, arthritis, and fatigue are all caused by chemicals and food allergies. A great number of people are affected by food allergies, especially in industrialized countries.

The same kinds of foods can cause dissimilar reactions in different people. The genetic predisposition of each individual is said to be the determining factor if the person is vulnerable to such a condition.

Edema or water retention is a very common condition among individuals with food allergies, and this is one factor that contributes to obesity. If you can identify the food or foods to which you are allergic, and stop eating them, you can lose up to 10 pounds in just a week and without using any diuretic.

You may be able to accomplish some of your weight loss goals without undergoing any diet plan, if you can discover your food allergies and eliminate those foods from your diet. Food sensitivities cause your body to keep hold of fats and water, and if you remove these foods, your body will not hold excess water or fat. You will start to lose weight. You should seek professional help so that you can be provided with a diet that’s low in allergen.

The brain is affected by food sensitivity as well. All your emotions, memory functions, vegetative functions, body temperature, blood pressure, sexuality, sleep, thirst, and hunger can be affected in some manner. There have been conclusive studies showing that the vital functions are greatly affected by your food allergies.

According to a neuropsychological analysis, allergenic foods can trigger the brain to produce biochemicals that are very similar to opiates or narcotics. As you eat more and more allergenic foods, the level of these brain chemicals will increase or rise.

Major food allergens include coffee, wheat, dairy products, corn, and eggs. At one time, medical doctors ignored food allergies because there was no specific drug that could be used to treat such condition. Most of today’s doctors rely on certain supplements and avoidance of such allergenic foods.

So take a good long look at your diet. You may just be allergic to those ‘comfort foods’, those foods that you just love to eat. Concentrate on eliminating these or at least cutting them way down, and you will be well on your way to weight loss.

Weight Loss Supplements

Weight Loss Supplements

Diet and exercise are important components in any healthy weight loss program. But given the nutritional deficiencies of our food supply these days, proper supplementation can also be of some assistance.

In this article we’ll look at one such supplement: Acetyl l-carnitine

Acetyl l-carnitine might sound like something far removed from our daily concerns, but it’s not. Given how many of us are overweight these days, this derivative of lysine and methionine amino acids is very important, because it is a recommended supplement for fatty acid oxidation. This can help you burn unwanted body fat and thereby lose weight.

What l-carnitine does is this: it transports fatty acids across mitochondrial membranes into the mitochondria, where they’re broken down and turned into energy. Fatty acids can’t penetrate the membrane on their own. In the human body, l-carnitine is mostly concentrated in the heart and skeletal muscles.

Acetyl l-carnitine also aids other biochemical processes in the body that help with neurotransmission and with releasing dopamine from neurons and binding it to receptors, making it a multifaceted aid to health. In addition to helping to burn body fat and improve energy production, acetyl l-carnitine can also help prevent cataracts, slow the signs of aging, improve memory and mental performance (especially in terms of short-term memory, attention to detail, and learning ability), increase reaction speed, and decrease symptoms of depression.

Acetyl l-carnitine is also being studied as a treatment for Alzheimers disease. It may slow the course of the disease by mitigating the brain’s deterioration. And it appears that benefits occur within three months and increase over time. It is also being studied as a possible supplement for person’s suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

Some of the foods that we consume contain acetyl l-carnitine. Red meats, such as beef and lamb, are among the best sources. Vegetables and grains contain the substance as well, but not in as high concentrations as red meats. Our bodies can produce small amounts of it as well.

Deficiencies in acetyl l-carnitine are not common. Muscle cramping and muscle fatigue are some signs of possible deficiency. More severe signs are improper kidney function after exercise and heart irregularities. For some people this deficiency is hereditary; for others it is dietary. Supplementation is helpful in both cases.

Acetyl l-carnitine can have a stimulating effect in some people, so it’s a good idea not to take it in the evening. Other possible rare side effects are nausea and headache. Taking a lower dose than recommended on the product label usually takes care of these symptoms. A normal dose is 500 mg two to three times a day.

Consider adding this supplement to assist in your weight loss efforts. As with any new supplement, introduce it slowly into your diet to ensure there are no unwanted side effects.

A little Help with that Belly - Camouflage that Big Belly

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Consider how often you’ve been told that to reduce that spare tyre you must be determined. Or re-worded in a more exact way, in order to effectively lose weight you should be willing and able to severely reduce naughty extras (like cakes) and eating at expensive bars, (yes, those fast foods are a no-no). If this silly advice was actually likely to work in real-life, the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics would no longer define over-eating as one of their leading health problems!!

The reason very many commercial diets eventually don’t work is because they fall foul of this simple principle. They are designed for the results today weight loss, not for normal everyday eating that change our whole way of life. Most commercial diets require more resolve to start and follow, and worse, try to stop us eating our favorite foods and stop us from eating at our favorite dining areas.

It is exciting, the thought of trying something different, and commencing the next new “fashionable” diet plan, fits the same mould. But unhappily, the end result for most of these ideas is unsatisfactory. Once the novelty and excitement peter out, we’re going to be back to square one.

Attempts to forcibly change our diet generally follow this sort of behaviour…

We begin the chosen diet program. It is an exciting prospect, that of losing weight, we are highly motivated, the weight is beginning to fall off, and the idea of a diet doesn’t seem so frightening now.

    • Pressures of life are forever escalating. There are demanding kids, bosses demanding yet more work, and don’t forget there are the inevitable requirements that you’ve got to read up about on this new diet.
      • Inevitably we end up smack-dab in the middle of a time management crisis, and looking for ways to save time. We vote in our mind to skip a few of the time consuming “special” meals defined as good for our health - “as this is a special occasion.”
      • Our “resources” of low calorie foods begins to dwindle, a full shop at the supermarket is out of the question, and so you decide to just nip down to the local convenience store… (oops…… how did those snacks get into the grocery cart anyhow?). … a familiar story I’m sure.

Maybe you should reconsider the use of a diet and you should try and find an alternative:

Now here’s a belly reduction tip I really like:

When females gain some weight, they often store excess water around their abdomens. If this is the case, it is useful advice to avoid tight fitting clothes. Wear a reasonably low-cut top to move somebody’s gaze away from that belly. Choose dark colours for your clothes because they give the illusion of a more slender image, so try to mainly wear: black on its own (very effective) or deep blue or red.

Reduce the size of your belly using this little tip:

      Fat Backside and Thighs?

Are you struggling to do your jeans up? It’s not really that you suddenly got bigger, it’s the clothes designer’s fault for making high pants. Consider wearing lower pants and also a sweater with medium length that will go down as far as your knees.
